RPC Apprentices

Creation and introduction of a legal apprentice programme

A law firm with an enviable reputation in its chosen sectors, our client is a leading city law firm. The firm has offices in the UK and Asia and provides their global and national clients with a full strategic business law service.

Purpose of the project

Jarred Consulting were appointed to work as part of the in-house team to design and introduce a legal apprenticeship programme covering Level 3 paralegals, Level 6 Legal Executives and Level 7 solicitor apprenticeships, into the firm. This involved working with the careers team to identify the correct type of programme and location to best serve the needs of the firm.

How Jarred Consulting helped

We were able to provide a consultant to act as additional fire power to help the People team deliver what was needed in a short timescale. Our consultant worked with the team to create and deliver the business case, including business investment (time and budget) and outlining the career paths and support needed to make the programme a success.

We were able to advise and deliver on the marketing and attraction activities as well as support information evenings and school outreach activities to help increase awareness and boost applications.

We also worked with key members of the regional office to ensure the programme could be fully embedded into the office and the right career opportunities and development could be given, making the business aware of the investment and requirements needed for the apprentice programme and reassuring them the relevant framework and operating model were in place.

Identifying the training provider and shaping the apprenticeship content were a key part of the work that we did. Time was spent identifying the right providers for the business and also creating a robust pastoral model to work in tandem to ensure success and support for the apprentices through the programme. Furthermore, we then worked to identify career paths post the apprenticeship and have worked to design the possible paths individuals might take and the training and experience they will want to help them achieve their goals within the firm, thus ensuring a successful talent pipeline for the future.

Our consultants have designed selection materials and advised on the appropriate benchmarks and expectations for candidates with little work experience. We were involved in the recruitment of the successful candidates alongside the People team. We held a number of briefing meetings as well as piloting the new materials (including a group exercise and redesigned graduate assessment materials) and trained the assessors to ensure the client was fully onboard with the programme.
